Applications of Fixation and Gauze Bandages
From initial emergency care to the fixation of cannulas or infusion tubes, fixation and gauze bandages can be used in a variety of ways. They are non-sterile dressing materials that should not come into direct contact with wounds. When applying dressings, they are used to secure sterile wound dressings. They can also securely fasten splints, padding, and cooling compresses with gauze bandages. The various types of fixation and gauze bandages are suitable for daily use in medical practices, hospitals, and households, and are essential components of every first aid kit.
Fixation Bandages for Every Body Part in Different Materials
From gauze bandages made of pure cotton to cotton blends, viscose, and polyamide fibers, the bandages have different levels of elasticity depending on the material. Non-elastic bandages are usually used on large body parts such as the trunk, arms, and legs.
Highly elastic bandages are recommended for hands, feet, and joint areas to preserve limb mobility. Additionally, the absorbent dressing material can absorb large amounts of fluid.
In addition to latex-containing bandages, our extensive range also includes latex-free gauze bandages for people with latex allergies. These products are clearly marked as "latex-free".
To ensure a firm and secure fixation, the ends of the bandage are usually secured with adhesive tape or bandage clips. Alternatively, we also offer self-adhesive gauze bandages. These cohesive bandages have a crepe-like structure, allowing the individual layers of the bandage to adhere to each other. Due to their self-adhesive properties, they provide exceptional stability and are therefore often used in support bandages for treating muscle fiber tears or sprains. Additionally, cohesive gauze bandages are often used as a cover to protect plaster bandages.
Gauze Bandages as Sterile Dressings and Carrier Material for Zinc Paste Bandages
Gauze bandages are particularly suitable as sterile wound dressings as they can be sterilized by steam at 134°C. For example, in hand surgery, sterilized gauze bandages are often used to dress hard-to-reach areas. Sterile gauze bandages are also used for wound tamponade or postoperative care of opened tendon sheaths and joints. In addition to sterile wound dressings, they offer a reduction in the risk of infection.
Zinc paste bandages, on the other hand, are applied to patients with impaired venous function or vein injuries to counteract painful swelling. They are sometimes also used to stabilize simple fractures or sprains. In this case, gauze bandages serve only as supporting fabric. They are soaked with a zinc oxide paste and wrapped around the affected part of the body. Once this paste has dried, the bandage is secure and stable.
