Clinical Thermometer for Body Temperature Measurement
If pathogens enter our body when we have a cold, it reacts with various defense mechanisms. In order to slow down the multiplication of the pathogen, it heats up. Because: With an increased body temperature, important defense reactions run faster. A temperature of 38 degrees Celsius and higher is considered a fever. Basically, this is a sensible defense reaction, but should be checked by a doctor if it lasts longer than three days.
If you have a fever, it is advisable to take regular temperature measurements and observe the fever curve. There are different clinical thermometers for this purpose. They differ in the measurement time, the measurement duration and the measurement type. Long established in medical institutions, they should not be missing in any household. In our online shop you can buy various clinical thermometers, including special children's and baby clinical thermometers. Read more here for more information at the end of this page.

Clinical Thermometer and How to Measure with It
Fever is the body's response to illness. It is often mistaken for a disease in its own right and attempts are made to treat it as such. Usually, the symptomatic lowering of the fever is not the best way, because it promotes the internal defense reactions of the body. Therapy should therefore primarily address the illness and not the fever itself. Some diseases have a typical temperature curve and can be recognized by this, among other things.
Nevertheless, there are cases in which treatment is advisable. Particularly with children, caution is required and the visit to the doctor should not be delayed. Adults should see a doctor after three days at the latest. It should also be examined if it occurs after a stay abroad, especially in tropical areas.
The normal body temperature in healthy people is between 36 and 37 degrees Celsius. From a temperature of 38 degrees Celsius it is a fever. The temperature can be checked quickly and easily with clinical thermometers. Fever is measured at different parts of the body, although it should be noted that the temperature of the respective areas varies. The temperature value can be used when measuring:
- in the anus (rectal)
- under the tongue (oral)
- under the armpit (axillary)
- in the ear
- on the forehead
Measured rectally, the value is very close to the core body temperature. The heat radiation of the eardrum in the ear is also a good indicator. In the oral cavity, under the tongue or in the armpit, however, the temperature decreases. This also applies to the temperature of the skin surface, which is also influenced by the ambient temperature. A fever measurement at different points therefore provides differently accurate measurement results. Get the most accurate measurements with one of our temperature meters for the ear or forehead. Which Clinical Thermometers are There?
Different thermometers offer different uses. A measuring range of at least 35 - 42 degrees Celsius and a precise measurement result are important. Different measuring devices differ in handling, speed and accuracy. The predominantly digital devices have a display and emit a signal tone after the measurement. Depending on the device, they also have storage spaces for the data of a long-term measurement. You will find the following product variants in our range.
Contact Thermometer
Conventional clinical thermometers have a rigid or flexible measuring tip at the front end. Usually they measure the body temperature in the mouth, in the anus or under the armpit. They are available in digital and analogue versions.
- Glass Thermometer: The classic variant. They contain a liquid that expands when heated. That is why they are also known as expansion thermometers. In contrast to the past, no mercury is used today, but a non-toxic mixture of metals (e.g. Galinstan) or alcohol. The measurement results are accurate, the measurement time of several minutes is very long. There is also a risk of breakage.
- Digital Contact Thermometers: The classic variant modernized. These devices are made of plastic, are battery operated and have a digital display. They measure the temperature via a sensor in the tip. They are significantly faster than their glass counterparts.
Infrared Thermometer
Radiated heat is infrared radiation. Infrared clinical thermometers do not have a measuring tip, but a lens that transfers the radiation to a sensor and converts it into an electronic signal. Devices with this measurement method are often used with small children because they provide quick and precise results without being uncomfortable for the child - like the measurement in the anus.
- - Infrared Ear Thermometer: The eardrum is well supplied with blood and emits heat radiation that can be easily measured. This is measured by the ear thermometer and shown on the display. The measurement takes place within seconds with high measurement accuracy.
- Infrared Forehead Thermometer: This device measures the infrared rays emitted by the head. The ambient temperature is taken into account when calculating the measured values. The forehead measurement is carried out by placing it on the surface or, depending on the product variant, contactlessly. The measuring speed of forehead thermometers is high, but the result is less precise than with other measuring methods.
- Infrared Clinical Thermometer for Ear and Forehead: There is also a combination of forehead and ear clinical thermometer. They can be converted and used as required.
