Blood glucose meters
You can find information about blood glucose meters on this page
What is a blood glucose meter?
A blood glucose meter analyses the blood and defines the blood sugar level. For this you also need a lancing device, the most blood glucose meters come with an integrated lancing device or have them in the box contents, if not you can buy the lancing device separate.
How does the blood glucose meters work?
The blood glucose meter needs a little amount of blood to work probably. To get this you need a lancing device. You should always, with every blood glucose meter, take the fingertip to get the capillary whole-blood. Now you take the blood droplets with the glucose meter (with a blood glucose test strip) and wait until the blood glucose meter analyzed the blood and shows you the result.
The time, which is needed for the analysis, is actually around 6 seconds. If you have more questions about the blood sugar measuring or which values you have to check please consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Information about the measurment or displaymethods
There are two different kinds of measurement:
- mmol/l = Millimol per Liter
- mg/dl = Milligramm per Deziliter
It is necessary to know on which method you’re “trained”, because the results are very different. Especially if you buy a blood glucose meter you should look, how the glucose meter is configured. If you have questions you should ask the manufacturer of the blood glucose meter or you can find much information and conversion table on the internet.
