What is nitrile?

Their chemical formula is R–C≡N: C stands for carbon, N for nitrogen, and R for the so-called “organic residue.” Nitrile - more precisely, nitriles - are a specific group of chemical compounds consisting of carbon and nitrogen. Nitriles are derived from hydrocyanic acid, which became widely known through crime novels because it can cause poisoning. But don't worry: nitrile gloves pose no risk of poisoning!
